Wrinkles – Privacy Policy

Wrinkles (“we,” “our,” “us”) is a location-aware audio guide that surfaces short, sourced stories near you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

What we collect

  • Location (foreground only): Your precise location when you grant permission, to show nearby stories and trigger proximity alerts. No continuous background tracking.

  • Microphone (push-to-talk only): When you press to ask a question, we record that snippet and send it to our server for transcription. We do not record in the background.

  • Usage data (basic logs): Non-identifying logs like request timestamps, error codes, and performance metrics to keep the app reliable.

  • Device info: Basic device/app version and OS information for debugging and compatibility.

We do not collect contact lists, photos, or payment info.

How we use data

  • Provide core features: Compute distances to nearby cards, trigger local notifications, answer questions, and play text-to-speech audio.

  • Transcription & answers: Voice snippets are sent to our server where we use third-party AI (OpenAI) to transcribe and generate short answers.

  • Quality & safety: Aggregate logs for reliability, abuse prevention, and to improve prompts and card quality.

Processing by third parties

We use trusted providers to process limited data:

  • OpenAI for speech-to-text and text generation/voice synthesis.

  • Cloudflare for our Worker/API hosting and security.

What we don’t do

  • No background location recording.

  • No selling of personal data.

  • No third-party advertising SDKs.

Retention

  • Voice snippets & transcripts: Kept only as long as needed to generate an answer and for short-term debugging, then deleted or anonymized.

  • Logs/metrics: Retained for a limited period to maintain service reliability.

Your choices

  • Location: Disable in system settings; the app will open but won’t show nearby stories.

  • Microphone: Use text instead of voice.

  • Notifications: Turn off local notifications in system settings.

  • Deletion: Email us to request deletion of residual server logs associated with your device.

Children

Wrinkles is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). If we learn a child has used voice features without consent, we’ll delete related data.

Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and industry-standard safeguards. No method is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

International transfers

Data may be processed in the U.S. or other countries where our providers operate, under contractual safeguards.

Changes

We may update this policy as we add features. We’ll change the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, notify in-app.
